Turtle Rock
Turtle Rock serves as a gateway to the entire Vedauwoo area. The
short trail is the recommended starting point to a Mecca of cycling
opportunities. The main reason to go to Vedauwoo is that the rock
formations make you feel as though you're on another planet. Another
reason is that the surrounding area offers scenic riding and a Lot
of places to pedal. Start with the turtle Rock trail because it's
fun and goes through awesome terrain, but branch off and explore.
endless miles of more singletrack, jeep road, gravel road and paved
roads await. Either get a topo and try to figure out where you're
going or just pedal what looks inviting to you. The recommended
method for riding the Vedauwoo area is to just ride; there are too
many trails to try to follow a map without stopping every half-mile.
You can make the journey as easy or as difficult as you Like. If
something Looks out of your League, choose another path; there are
plenty of riding opportunities. With some work and navigation, you
can easily link the turtle Rock Trail to the Happy Jack trail system
and probably find fun trails along the way.
Directioins: Vedauwoo is in the Medicine Bow national Forest
between Laramie and Cheyenne. You can access Vedauwoo from Interstate
80, just watch for Vedauwoo signs and exit. The area is well-marked,
and finding your way to the trailhead is easy. If you're feeling
confused or Lost, stop by the Lincoln memorial and visitor's area.
They have maps of the region.
Trail Descriptions: The only fork on the turtle Rock trail
provides access to the surrounding area. Take it and see where you
wind up.
The interesting part about riding this area is that you might find
several miles of good singletrack or you might find singletrack
that deadends into a field. Just go with good humor and plenty of
time, and you'll find some excellent riding.
