Rock Creek
Just don't look down. The Rock Creek trail is recommended only
for those without acrophobia. On the majority of the ride, you're
on a Ledge that has some extreme drop-offs down to the creek-let's
just say that on many parts, you wouldn't want to fall the wrong
way. Use extreme caution. Now that the warning is out of the way,
Rock Creek is an absolutely awesome time. If you ride it as a shuttle,
you get 12 miles of singletrack downhill! The trail frequently crosses
rock fields, which is why it is a recommended shuttle. If you do
want to pedal up, however, go for it. Or if you can't arrange a
shuttle, start riding from the bottom and see how far you make it.
The other option is to ride up FR 111, a gravel road, and down the
singletrack. Plan to spend an extended period of time on the Trail.
Although it's Only 12 Miles Downhill, the technical parts can slow
you down. You might want to get off and walk some of the sections.
The Rock Creek trail is legendary. Don't pass it up. Just take food
and water and ride safely.
Directions: Access the top of the ride from Highway
130 and the bottom from Arlington or Interstate 80. From Highway
130, go north on FR 101 until you hit Sand Lake or the Deep Creek
Campground. The Rock Creek trail (trail #106) starts from the campground.
you'll see signs. You can use FR 111 for a shuttle. From Deep Creek
Campground continue straight (northwest) on FR 101 until you hit
FR 111. Take a right (north) on FR 111. If you want to access the
trailhead from Interstate 80, exit at arlington, drive to town and
follow the frontage road. Take a Left (west) to the access road
for the Rock Creek trailhead. Continuing on the frontage road will
take you to FR 111.
Mile Log(for shuttle): The trail is well-marked and has mile
markers.
